The Point of it All

Another year, another purse

Posted in beyond pillows, featured artist, fibers, hand-painted canvas on 08.01.12

Welcome 2012! Welcome two more purses to Susan’s needlepoint purse wardrobe!

Two new purses from the Elizabeth Turner Collection: one in my tried-and-true satchel style and one in the new opera bag style. You can see the finished version hereĀ It’s soft-sided with a shoulder strap..a petite thing for an evening on the town. I think I will change the dark red to black and possibly some of the metallic silver to metallic gold so the purse goes with more outfits. You can change the colors, you know! Don’t be limited to what’s painted on the canvas…be imaginative and creative!

As for the fun summer colors on the satchel bag, what color shall I do the background? On Point readers and Facebook followers, please vote! Things to keep in mind: this will be my everyday bag in the summer so I don’t want it to get dirty (so probably not white). I don’t mind stitching it black because black over white canvas will not be the nightmare that black on black is. I tried a bit of yellow and I think it looks snappy. I am using Silk & Ivory for the bright colors and Appleton for the background. Please also give ideas for a background stitch. I AM OPEN TO YOUR IDEAS!

Happy stitching!
Susan

Fab Finishing!

Posted in baby, Christmas, hand-painted canvas on 07.02.11

Look what just came back from Laura and Carolyn, super-star finishers! This little mitten is from the Elizabeth Turner Collection. L& C added the name in beads across the top, along with a lovely beaded trim. A perfect memento for your sweet baby’s first Christmas.

Personal disclosure: I am not expecting a baby! Every time I showcase anything baby related, customers ask if I am pregnant. I am not but I will keep loyal On Point readers up to date when there is news, I promise!

Happy stitching,
Susan

PS Here is a picture of the back…Laura & Carolyn added individual little beads in tiny clusters.

Back from Market

Posted in hand-painted canvas, stitches on 11.01.11

I have just returned from the Needlework Market in sunny Long Beach, California…wow, so many beautiful canvases! I can’t wait for them to start arriving! I took pictures of some especially neat ones. The picture quality isn’t great because the convention center lighting was poor but here’s the idea.

These adorable Halloween “stand ups” are from Kirk & Hamilton. Very cute.

You can make your own gingerbread garland! Elizabeth Turner Collection envisioned that you would stitch the members of your family in gingerbread. Adorable finishing.

These canvases looked perfect for decorative stitches! I ordered a bunch of sweet saying plus several canvases of local sports teams…ie gold and maroon with Go Skins! for the Redskins…someone has to be a fan right?!

If it’s got animal print, it must be mine! This little tuffet from Trubey/Fleur de Paris is AWESOME!

There were many, many wonderful canvases…I get excited each time Dwayne, our super UPS man, comes to the shop!

Happy stitching,
Susan
