If you waited until the last minute and need one more present or stocking stuffer, how about a key fob from Elizabeth Turner? I stitched up this bee in one night and then easily (and quickly) inserted it into the leather fob. We’ve got a nice selection of these kits in the shop. Come by Tuesday or Wednesday morning!

Happy stitching and happy holidays,
Susan

Santa’s on his way!

Look who just arrived!

Amanda Lawford Giant Santa

This Santa stands 30″ tall! He comes on 13 or 18 mesh; I stitched him on 13. Amanda Lawford has a bunch of different Santas; click here to see them.

This canvas was so much fun to stitch! I used a bunch of different threads and a few different stitches. He’ll be back in the shop after the holidays so you can see him in person. (The only way I could get him home was to strap him in Betsy’s car seat!)

Merry Christmas and happy stitching,
Susan

Works in Progress

KSH Designs Ikat

I always have a bunch of works in progress so I can match the canvas with my (stitching) mood. Lately I’ve been wanting something easy and mindless. This Ikat print from KSH/Kate Dickerson Needlepoint (www.kshneedlepoint.com) fits the bill. 13 mesh, about 10″x10.” I’m using Silk and Ivory, which is divine. These aren’t my usual colors but the canvas is going to look great as a pillow in my guest room. I’m also going to do a Jean Smith (www.jeansmithdesigns.com) floral as a companion piece for the loveseat. I’m thinking of a creamy green linen fabric with contrast piping in pink and a tailored, pleated ruffle.

JP Needlepoint Zebra

I’m also working on this zebra canvas from JP Needlepoint (www.jpneedlepoint.com) for my mom. She was recently in New York City and saw a zebra sculpture but in unexpected colors. The black stripes were dark navy blue and the white areas were purple. I was delighted we had a zebra canvas that we could modify! Even though this is a 13 mesh canvas, I am stitching with 2 out of the 3 strands of Trio, which is slightly thicker than a single strand of Silk and Ivory. I find that when I am changing colors on a canvas, this thread trick gives better coverage.

I have a travel size Christmas ornament too but I can’t post a picture. It’s for my husband, Chris, who always reads my blog posts. Right, honey?! Little projects, kept in a zippered bag, are perfect for travel needlepointing, waiting in doctor’s offices, etc.

Happy stitching; happy Independence Day! The Point of It All will be closed on Friday, 7/4 and we’ll be open from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, 7/5.

Merry Christmas from The Point of It All! I always like to stitch a seasonally-appropriate canvas so right now I’m working on a tree topper (for next year’s Christmas tree). This is a Melissa Shirley canvas on 13 mesh, though it also comes on 18. I used mostly Balger plus Neon Rays for the holly, wool for the hair, and silk for the face. Then I added beads, lots of beads! The fur hem of her dress is uncut turkey work done in Fuzzy Stuff. Right now I’m just finishing up the green sacrifice rows on the front side.

The POIA girls saw how much fun I was having with this piece that both Grace and Anna have ordered the canvas and Molly is thinking about it!

Be sure to check out our calendar at www.tpoia.com to see our holiday hours. Today we will be open from 10 to 1:59 (hint, hint Laurie and I want to leave right at 2 pm!)

Happy stitching,
Susan

Fabulous Finishing: 3D Bird

Tweet! Tweet! Two fabulous three-dimensional birds just flew in from the finisher! They are from Labors of Love. I stitched the woodpecker all in Balger for a totally sparkly effect. Regina, who writes stitch guides for The Point of It All, did her chick a dee in velvet–it’s so soft and lovely.

Check out the Labors of Love website to see their whole collection of birds.

Happy stitching,
Susan
